One of my besties Beatriz Soriano shares with us her top 5 spots in her hometown of Miami - an eclectic selection which is no surprise for my bohemian chic friend. Originally from Santiago, Dominican Republic, Beatriz grew up in Miami so we couldn’t have a better tour guide. She’s always been the Chief Entertainment Officer for all things Miami. We first met on our first day as Freshmans at the University of Florida and we hit it off right then and there in English Lit class. As we like to brag, 13 years of friendship and counting!
Beatriz's Top 5 Spots in Miami
1. Wood Tavern
For a drink at one of the first bars in the increasingly popular Arts District (they were located in Wynwood before it was cool), come to Wood Tavern. Take in the beautiful street art and funky music vibes. Plus, excellent people watching at the "Williamsburg of Miami.” And let's never underestimate the wonders of cheap booze! You can buy a round for all your friends for less than $40 here.
2. Matheson Hammock Park
Get away from the city stresses at this little oasis just south of historic Coral Gables. The park is right on the bay, and offers one of the most stunning sunsets in town. Pack a little picnic and come lose yourself, or find yourself, here.
3. Soya e Pomodoro
In two words… Real simple. Real authentic. Real good. In one of the oldest parts of Downtown Miami, you'll find the best bolognese sauce in this corner of the new world. The homemade pasta is, in a word, perfect. Added bonus: live jazz on the weekends. Between the food, the wine, the ambience, and the magic, you'll feel transported to another place in time.
4. Michael's Genuine Food and Drink
Right in the heart of the trendy Design District. Stop in for brunch after a morning of shopping (or window shopping, in my case) in one of the most luxurious areas of Miami. Hermes, Givenchy, Celine, and Dior are some of the brands in this “humble abode” of street lined shops and restaurants. But Michael’s Genuine Food and District was here before they ever dreamed about laying out a red carpet. It has been a staple of Miami's culinary scene for years and its New American creations will never disappoint. Experience it for yourself!
5. Pool Bar at The Vagabond Hotel
For a taste of the Art Deco Miami that's timeless, stop by the pool bar at The Vagabond Hotel for a refreshing Miami-themed cocktail. Beautiful, crisp, clean flavors only outmatched by the intoxicating tropical grounds. I so envision Frank Sinatra sipping cocktails by this pool.
