JACLYN at a Glance
Home: Houston, Texas
Profession: Director of Marketing & Events for Sylvan Learning Centers in Houston, but I'm a certified teacher with a degree in education!
No. of Children & Their Ages: I have 1 son, Owen, who's 2 1/2!
Zodiac Sign: I'm 100% Leo to the core. :P
Favorite Quote: One of my favorite quotes, especially when it comes to style and blogging, is "The best way to get something done is to begin." I hear so many women talk about how they'd like to dress (or new hobbies they'd like to start), but put it off due to weight or a circumstance in their life. I love to dive head first into my ambitions without letting circumstances hold me back.
RV: How would you describe your overall style?
JK: My overall style is pretty classic with a hint of comfort. I try to keep my style true to my lifestyle.
RV: Has your style changed after having children and how so?
JK: My style has definitely evolved since I've had my son. I used to dress plain and simple, and on-trend with everyone else. I feel like I have finally learned to think for myself in terms of clothing. I love to use trends to accentuate my own, personal style now. I also feel like being a working mom has given me the determination to stay fashionable.
RV: What's your go-to outfit?
JK: Definitely a dress when pressed for time. I have a few comfortable jersey dresses that have great patterns and immediately help me look put-together. Throw on a blazer and a necklace for an instant professional look.
RV: What's your fashion/beauty indulgence?
JK: Usually dresses! Like I said above, I love how easy it is to throw on a dress with a few accessories! My beauty indulgence is probably concealer. I love to use a very fair concealer to highlight my face and help to hide these dark circles under the eyes!
RV: What's the one item in your closet that you would never be able to part ways with?
JK: The one item that I have held onto forever and ever more is a pair of True Religion jeans that fit just-right! They've actually fit me at every stage of my life since college, gaining/losing weight, etc. They're just the perfect pair of jeans!
RV: What's your secret/tips to staying fashionable (and sane) while running after your children?
JK: My secret to staying fashionable while chasing after Binky boy is definitely finding comfortable pieces that instantly look stylish, like a patterned jersey dress or throwing on a blazer. I also never go without a necklace. When new moms ask advice about staying stylish, I give them a challenge of wearing a necklace every day. Even if they're staying at home in sweats, I challenge them to throw on a necklace. It starts a habit, it helps you FEEL more "dressed," and jewelry is a great way to take an outfit to the next level.
RV: I couldn’t agree more!
RV: Do you take daily "me" time and if so, what do you do as a pick-me-upper?
JK: I take a lot of me time. My husband is a great partner and ensures that I get a good amount of time to blog and visit my friends. I usually blog after we put our son to sleep and I visit friends at least once a week. I'm an extrovert like no other, so I NEED time outside of the house, around a lot of people. I've loved getting involved with more blog events around Houston and connecting with other bloggers! It has really fueled this passion even more.
RV: What inspires you and what are you passionate about?
JK: Being an extrovert, anything with other people really fuels me. I'm passionate about sharing knowledge and motivating others to do what they're passionate about. Mingling with people and hearing what their goals are really inspires me to find ways to help people achieve those goals. I started blogging to share breastfeeding information for the mamas who felt stuck and wanted advice. It has evolved into sharing style so new moms can feel confident and so on!
RV: How has becoming a mom changed your perspective on things?
JK: Becoming a mom has motivated me in a lot of unexpected ways (like style)! I think I'm determined to go against the stereotype of becoming frumpy or abandoning my own identity, so I've fought harder to hang on to those things. I think it has helped my motherhood journey and I think it will set a great example for my son.
RV: I feel the same way you do. Besides, when you feel good about yourself, you are confident and motivated. The saying goes, “dress for success.”
RV: If you could have dinner with any 3 people in the world, still around or no longer with us, who would they be?
JK: It would have to be Julia Roberts, Amelia Earhart, and Pippa Middleton. I love the charisma that these ladies exude, as well as their natural inclination to go against what's expected of them. :P It would be an interesting dinner with lots of laughs, that's for sure!
RV: It certainly would be a night to remember! And on that note, thank you so much Jaclyn for talking with us at “Rendez-Vous with Olivia” and sharing your wonderful and valuable insights. You are an inspiration and we look forward to seeing more of you and @beautyandthebinky.
